This month’s update is going to be a little light. Still learning the whole newsletter game.

A special thank you to the newsletter subscribers and S2C’s clients. It’s been a pleasure working with you and creating things together.

Sometimes the world can feel like a lonely, intentionally-isolating place. While it’s true that third places are less common and that social media feels more divisive than ever, it’s important that we do not forget the importance of human connection and even vulnerability to one another.

Everyone wants a village but few are willing to be villagers. Community is built on the concept of give and take, not solely for transaction but as reciprocity as the right thing to do. However, it’s hard to remember that when we live in a time where, “how can you benefit me” is always the forethought and how we can’t just enjoy things, even if that’s simply the presence of one another.

Community Server Deprecation and Restructuring: While our Discord server reached a record 722 members, the co-founders have decided to prune our roster down to our most active participants. Moreover, there were conflicting expectations as the server shifted from what used to be a gaming community to a community that games but is one spoke to a much larger wheel. Unfortunately, some members were also removed for breaches in our code of conduct.

Because of this, our Discord community roster is now at 287 members and the community itself is being broken down and reorganized to better fit our goal of creating a strategy hub for personal and professional development. Interestingly, despite the pruning, event attendance rates have been higher and members have been more engaged and interested in participating within the community as they feel this number more accurately reflects those who are here for the right reasons rather than those who joined looking for something else that no longer aligns with our current mission.

For now, the Discord will be a closed community with only moderators and co-founders having the ability to invite new people in. As we clean up roles, channels, and determine new goals for the Discord server and how it fits in with Start 2 Continue’s overall model, Metz will be focusing on two things while the moderators manage the Discord on his behalf:

Subscriber Tier Adjustments: For over two years, we’ve struggled to determine a third Discord subscriber tier. However, with our focus on providing branded game servers for games our Discord community is interested in, we’ve added a new starter tier for those who want to support the gaming community simply for whitelist (preferred entry) rights to skip ahead of any queues those servers might have. The two existing tiers have now been moved up as the second and third options.

Discord subscription revenue goes to supporting S2C’s business infrastructure as well as game server hosting.

Game Server Hosting: After testing hosting with a Vintage Story server, it’s our goal to set up an Arma Reforger server for community use. We are currently organizing a group of admins and stakeholders to determine strategy for the server but we want to use the server for events, content creation, and testing concepts for custom-built scenarios and campaigns.

With the community deprecating and rebuilding, we thought this would be a great opportunity re-engage with our members, not just through gaming, but practicing real-life skills like project management, content creation, marketing, event planning, communication, and goal planning.

There are no local events scheduled for February 2026. We’ll be back with our regular programming soon.
