Welcome to Start 2 Continue’s changelog newsletter, where I update you on everything going on with the business and community every other month and share helpful insight to improve your personal and professional life.

It’s been a little while since the last update now that the newsletter is on a new schedule. As a reminder, I’ll be sending out this email every other month (so the next changelog will be in your inbox in September) on the Thursday of the first full week of that month.

Ideally, once I have more content published more frequently (and as I learn how to write newsletters better), I’ll be back to our monthly programming. But in the meantime, I’m pleased to report that things have been moving ahead in interesting, unforeseen ways — but I’ll get into that soon.

Still, thank you for sticking around and following along with me. I appreciate your patience, support, and interest in Start 2 Continue and being a part of its community in your own way.

As always, a special thank you to our subscribers and clients. It’s been a pleasure working with you and creating things together.

Thought of the Day

“To think is easy. To act is hard. But the hardest thing in the world is to act in accordance with your thinking.”

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

The hardest step when trying to accomplish any goal is the first one. It’s easy to daydream and come up with ideas; acting upon them is another beast entirely, especially if you decide that daydreams are best kept as private fantasies rather than bringing them into reality. And don’t even get me started on how hard it is to remain consistent. This newsletter going out well beyond the Thursday of the first full week of the month is testament to my own struggle.

But I think a key point to remember is that success (or deciding on a pivot to be more in line with what you consider successful) isn’t a huge upheaval. I mean, it can be, but 99% of the time, it’s the culmination of little, boring, repetitive tasks that aren’t all that glamorous.

Everything requires consistency and repetition: going to the gym, building a business or career, taking care of your friends and family, maintaining a healthy food and media diet. Or, in my case, building this website to support my brand and the community surrounding it.

I like creating content, but I simultaneously dread the start of any new project or a new day of work. I don’t know why either because I genuinely love what I do and how it impacts people.

Perhaps it’s because I forget to love the process and instead focus too much on the result.

Perhaps it’s a flagging of confidence, feeling like nothing I’m doing matters or that I remain unheard and unseen when my anxiety and depression get the best of me.

Perhaps I’m so used to what struggling feels like that the prospect of not struggling — even though it’s comparatively a better way to live — is unfamiliar and that fear of the unknown becomes self-sabotage.

While this is just my example, maybe you can relate in your own way and identify some of the hurdles you put in front of yourself. Ultimately this represents a misalignment between our thinking and actions, one way or another: either you’re acting with confidence but too often think yourself undeserving of that confidence… or you believe in your dreams and want them to come true but you struggle with its execution.

With half of 2026 already behind us, let’s see if we can’t spend the rest of this year aligning ourselves better between our thoughts and actions.

Please reflect on the following:

  • What is one goal you’d like to accomplish before the end of the year and what are some of the barriers keeping you from moving forward with it?

  • How many of these barriers are imaginary (mind you, they’re obviously significant hurdles, but the nice thing about them existing in your own head is that you have a lot more control in removing them than you might realize)?

  • If starting the work is the most difficult step, what do you do to overcome it?

To that last bit, a little trick I have (one I’m using right now as I write this out) is setting a timer for 5, 10, 15, 30 minutes; whatever block of time is useful but not overwhelming. I tell myself, “Oh, it’s okay, it’s only this long and if I don’t want to do any more work, I don’t have to.” But virtually every time, once I get started, I’ll cruise through half an hour with no problem, resetting the timer again… and again… and again.

So if you’re struggling, try that out. If you know of other methods, please share them with me because I love learning about executive dysfunction hacks.

Content You Might Have Missed

Here are a few articles we’ve shared over the last two months.

Leaning into the Weirdness of Start 2 Continue

I’ve spent the better part of the past two months trying to figure out a better way to explain what Start 2 Continue is and my role in it. We’re many things to many people which is great that we’re so adaptable, but a pain to market succinctly. However, after many sleepless nights and being a bit more honest with myself, I’ve settled on saying exactly what I am: a personal and professional coach that owns a gaming community built around entrepreneurship, self-improvement, and peer mentorship.

I still consult on everything from business development, process optimization, project and product management, and data analysis to resume writing, career coaching, and networking, but I’m a huge nerd who loves content creation, video games, and building communities. Like many people, I find the state of the world to be overwhelming, chaotic, and not too kind to the vast majority of us. And so, this weird hybrid of concepts is my way of combating the status quo we all loathe (whether publicly or at the end of the day as we lay in bed, dreading the grind that’s become expectation).

But the nice thing about human-made problems is that they can also be solved by humans. And solutions to any problems demand that they are different than the source of the problems. So Start 2 Continue, in a way, is my way of fighting against this unhealthy socioeconomic situation we find ourselves in.

And I’m happy to see that it’s already making headway in a few ways:

  • I launched a pay-what-you-want resume writing and editing service to help people get the help they need to find work and position themselves with better confidence and with a resume that flags better against AI and algorithmic filtering a lot of HR departments use with digital job applications.

  • By getting to know people who ask for resume help, there are times where some of my clients or others in my network need the talent of those kinds of individuals so I get to pass on opportunities and help make connections and see two parties collaborate and make cool stuff together.

  • Because of the work of one of Start 2 Continue’s community members (shout-out to Taz) and his focus on starting a new chapter as a streamer, content creator, and professional The Finals player, the Discord has had an influx of other streamers, content creators, and eSports aspirants who are eager to learn and support one another on their various journeys.

  • I’m developing a game (maybe it’ll be a boardgame/tabletop, maybe it’ll be a computer game) and playtesting it with the community, teaching community members how to be playtesters as well as training them on personal financial strategy skills.

And while I was initially nervous to just come out and say I am a coach who is also essentially a professional (and much better-showered) Discord moderator out of fear of not being taken seriously, the little elevator pitch above actually stokes curiosity better than I thought it would: either it’s a non-gamer who vibes with the coaching but curious how the gaming community comes into player; or it’s a gamer that likes the gaming community but is curious how I apply personal and professional coaching to that.

Even though Start 2 Continue has been around for 15 years (we actually had that anniversary on June 1st), we’ve come a long way from our indie game review and news roots to helping build cool stuff and having fun despite the chaos of the world and living in the 21st century.

Every day is a new beginning. If you don’t like yesterday, do something new today and keep doing that until you do enjoy your yesterdays too.

Community Updates

Here are a few community-related updates through Start 2 Continue’s network:

  • The pay-what-you-want resume and editing service is now live. You can learn more about it on its page here.

  • The “Start Here” page has been updated to better explain who I (Metz) am, what Start 2 Continue is, and how we help people.

  • A new coaching services page has been added to explain what working together looks like and how we make a difference for individuals, businesses, organizations, and communities.

  • My operations team and I are currently figuring out better ways to support the streamers and content creators in our Discord and plan on updating the server’s subscriber tiers and channels to better serve them.

Until Next Time!

Things are still moving ahead. Thank you for your patience and support. And remember: if you ever feel like you need a change in your life, it doesn’t have to be this huge thing. Pick something small and walk with the confidence that you’re allowed to be successful as you define it.

We only have one life (that we know of). Spend it in alignment between how you act and think.
